Why Lucid Dream?
A lucid dream is a dream during which you are aware that you are dreaming and hence can control it. A lucid dreamer is therefore someone who can control his or her dreams. So, why should you want to lucid dream?

Well, first of all, it is fun and exciting! Anyone who can lucid dream will tell you that it is better than anything they have ever done - it is the ultimate form of entertainment. It's as if you are immersed in a highly realistic computer game, but a thousand times better. An experienced lucid dreamer will have dreams that feel as realistic as reality itself, and have sensory perception from all the senses - sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. You will be able to fly while feeling the breeze against your skin, smell the fresh air above the clouds, see the ground far below, hear a plane passing close by and taste the water droplets in the air. And if you want, you can jump into the plane and fly it down to the nearest airport…or…why not fly it to the moon and have a gravity-free stroll there??

However, lucid dreaming is also strongly therapeutic. Some persons have recurring nightmares, and night after night they keep waking up in a shock and this may lead to insomnia. Being able to lucid dream will mean you can stop the nightmare from occurring; for example, if you keep dreaming of driving your car off a cliff, in a lucid dream you will be able to steer your car to safety.

Lucid dreaming is also used to help cope with current stressful situations, as they can be used as a 'practice ground' to prepare yourself for a stressful event, such as an upcoming interview or a very important meeting. You can play out different scenarios in a lucid dream, and this will help to prepare you mentally for the event. It will also prepare you physically, because with enough practice, your body will become used to the situation and you will not feel anxious, agitated or shaky when you actually go through it in real life.

You do not need any special inborn talent or skill to become a lucid dreamer. You just need to prepare yourself mentally and to regularly follow a number of steps as explained in the book Lucid Dreaming Made Easy. For example, before you start controlling your dreams, you will have to enhance your dream recall ability, and there are eleven methods by which this can be achieved.
